Motorists in Portage la Prairie should brace for delays and detours this week as the province begins a two-week rehabilitation project on a major route and the city extends a separate road closure.

Starting Tuesday, Sept. 2, Manitoba Transportation and Infrastructure will begin surface rehabilitation work on Provincial Road 240. The project will affect the stretch of road between the north and south junctions of Crescent Road East.

During construction hours, traffic will be reduced to a single lane controlled by flaggers, which will likely cause significant backups. The road is expected to reopen to two-way traffic during non-construction hours. The work is anticipated to be completed in approximately two weeks.
