One person has been airlifted to hospital after a helicopter crashed into a field on the Isle of Wight on Monday (August 25).

The helicopter was being used for a flying lesson and had four people on board including the pilot, the operator Northumbria Helicopters has said.

Police were called to the scene near the A3020 Shanklin Road at 9:24am on Monday. The road was closed and people have been urged to avoid the area.

A major incident was called at 9:47am to co-ordinate the emergency response, but this has since been stood down.
