Calgary Flames alternate captain MacKenzie Weegar will attend Hockey Canada’s Olympic orientation camp this week: ‘It means the world to me.’

MacKenzie Weegar has had an unforgettable summer.

The Flames’ workhorse defenceman married his sweetheart, Maggie, last month in Montreal. And now he’s back in Calgary this week to rub shoulders with some of the NHL’s biggest stars.

The 31-year-old rearguard scored an invite to Hockey Canada’s Olympic orientation camp, which runs Tuesday-Thursday and will feature roster hopefuls for the men’s, women’s and para teams.
