OTTAWA - The Canadian government is backing a United Nations report that indicates famine is occurring in Gaza. Officials are calling on Israel to cease its military actions in the region.

The Integrated Food Security Phase Classification, a global standard for assessing hunger, reported on Friday that parts of Gaza are experiencing famine, with the situation likely to worsen.

In response, Israel has rejected these claims, stating that it has increased the number of aid trucks entering Gaza due to international pressure. However, humanitarian organizations argue that the amount of aid being allowed is still inadequate to meet the needs of the population.

Canada's Secretary of State for International Development, Randeep Sarai, expressed deep concern over the deteriorating conditions in Gaza. He stated that Ottawa is "deeply alarmed by the horrific deteriorating conditions in Gaza" and accused Israel of "failing" to fulfill its obligations under international law.

The Conservative Party has not directly addressed the famine findings. However, party members have consistently attributed the humanitarian crisis to Hamas's actions.

The situation in Gaza continues to draw international attention as the conflict escalates.
