ROSWELL, Ga. — An interchange was dedicated in honor of Officer Jeremy Labonte on Monday, after he was shot and killed responding to a call about a suspicious person earlier this year.

Roswell PD Officer Labonte, 24, was shot the night of Feb. 7 near the Ace Pickleball Club when approached the subject, Edward Espinoza, who suddenly opened fire.

"He was universally beloved by all who were blessed to know him as a friend, a husband, a son, and a public servant. His absence now leaves a void that could never be filled," the Roswell department said at the time of the tragic incident.

He had been with the department a little more than two years. He left behind a young wife and was remembered as a "compassionate, hardworking, and protective soul who found purpose in serving others."
