A 22-year-old Rupert man died early Monday morning when he was struck by a semi-trailer on Interstate 84 in Cassia County, police say.

The man crashed a 1999 Chrysler 300 while driving west on the eastbound shoulder of I-84, according to Idaho State Police. He then got out of the car and stood in the eastbound lane, where a 2023 Freightliner struck and killed him.

The eastbound lane was blocked for about five hours.

Idaho State Police are investigating the incident.
