Local 3's archives show three decades of extensive flooding at Fort Oglethorpe's Crossing Apartments

Since flooding displaced dozens at the Crossing Apartments after major rainfall on August 12, residents have consistently told Local 3 that while damage this time around might be the worst, floodwaters have pummeled this complex for decades.

A trip to the Local 3 archives shows three decades, three floods, and the same story.

"These folks are used to flooding waters. This happens every time a hard rain falls," a reporter said in 1995.

In unison, past and current residents at the complex, formerly named the Battlewood Apartments, have questioned whether nearby Black Branch Creek could be to blame. Fort Oglethorpe leaders told Local 3 last week that the property owner would need to initiate any kind of flood mitigation project.
