LANSING, Mich. (WILX) - Attorney General Dana Nessel has joined a multistate coalition in sending a comment letter to the U.S. Department of Education , urging the agency not to limit schools’ ability to support students’ mental health needs.
The letter raises concerns about the Department’s proposed changes to its School-Based Mental Health Services Grant Program and Mental Health Service Professional Demonstration Grant Program, initiatives that were funded by Congress following the tragic school shootings in Parkland, Florida, and Uvalde, Texas.
These programs are designed to expand mental health services in high-need schools and are currently authorized through 2026.
