HARVEY, La. — Jefferson Parish deputies are investigating the death of a 3-year-old boy in what authorities say appears to be a homicide.

The child was found dead Monday morning at an apartment complex in the 2100 block of Manhattan Boulevard after deputies received a call around 7:40 a.m. from a woman reporting her son was unresponsive.

When deputies arrived, they located the child’s body inside the apartment and confirmed he had died at the scene. The child’s mother was also found with multiple lacerations across her body, officials said in a news conference on Monday. She was transported to a hospital for medical treatment.
