OSCELOLA, Iowa (KCCI) – A congressman from Wisconsin is being called a hero after he helped save an 11-year-old boy involved in a severe crash.
The accident took place on Aug. 16 in Iowa about an hour outside Des Moines after a minivan crashed into a semi-truck parked on the side of the interstate.
Wisconsin Republican Congressman Derrick Van Orden said he was near the scene when the crash happened.
“I heard a massive, massive boom,” he said.
Van Orden, a former Navy SEAL, was driving just feet ahead of the vehicles and said he stopped and turned around when he heard the crash.
“I ran back to our truck and opened up my suitcase and grabbed two pairs of socks, it’s the only material that I had, and then I put up two constricting bands because there wasn’t enough for a tourniquet,” he s
