CLARKSBURG, W.Va. (WBOY) — A man has been charged after allegedly leaving a child in a garage without any care or adult supervision for a week in Harrison County.

On Aug. 15, deputies with the Harrison County Sheriff's Department were notified of a child "who was left alone in a garage for approximately one week," according to a criminal complaint.

When deputies responded, they located a child inside the "small garage" and noted that the juvenile "did not have access to food, water, bathroom, medical assistance or adult supervision" during that time, deputies said.

Deputies learned the child had been left there while Juan Benitez-Chacon, who was supposed to be care of the juvenile, was out of town "with no known return date." Deputies noted the child did have "assistance from neighbors
