STAFFORD COUNTY, VA — A Culpeper woman is behind bars after allegedly driving drunk with a child in the car, then attacking deputies during a late-night encounter on Richmond Highway.
Just after 10 p.m. Saturday, a Stafford County deputy spotted a Mazda parked in the right travel lane near Hope Road. When the deputy approached to investigate, he found 32-year-old Kayla Johnson in the passenger seat with a child beside her. Johnson initially claimed she ran out of gas, then backtracked, saying no one had been driving.
The deputy noted signs of intoxication and confirmed Johnson had a prior DUI and a revoked license. She was taken into custody due to her erratic behavior, and the child was turned over to a responsible adult.
