Authorities are investigating after a deputy US Marshal shot a man who was allegedly fleeing officers as they tried to carry out an arrest warrant Friday in Worcester, officials said.
The man, identified as 23-year-old Chris Betances of Worcester, was taken to a local hospital and was in stable condition as of Friday evening, Worcester District Attorney Joseph D. Early Jr.’s office said in a statement.
Betances was wanted on a case out of Worcester Superior Court, where he faces two charges of trafficking cocaine and opioids, according to court records.
Authorities said Betances allegedly fled in a vehicle as State Police and the US Marshals Service tried to arrest him in the area of Strathmore Street.
Betances allegedly was driving toward the officers when a deputy marshal opened fire
