A Minnesota man is facing a felony forgery charge after he allegedly used his brother's identity to pass a background check needed to volunteer in the Elk River School District.

David J. Williams, 62, of Lake Crystal, allegedly used his brother's name and social security number when applying for a volunteer position back in 2023, according to a charge filed this month.

Prosecutors allege his hiring by the district relied on the false information, which prevented the discovery of his a felony theft conviction from 2003.

The charge states Williams served as president of the Quarterback Club and later obtained paid football coaching opportunities, which other coaches told investigators Williams would likely not have landed without his volunteer position in Elk River.
