CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) - The Charleston County Sheriff’s Office and local advocacy groups are sounding the alarm on overdoses in the Lowcountry.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says that overdose is the leading cause of death for people between the ages of 18 and 44.
In 2023, there were more than 2,000 deaths in our state.
Agencies and organizations around the Palmetto State have been trying to help reduce the deaths caused by overdoses by allowing businesses and other places to carry Narcan.
Narcan helps reverse the effects of an opioid overdose in two to three minutes.
Charleston County Sheriff’s Office Lt. Stephen Kudron says that there has been a decrease in deaths in our area.
