GRAND FORKS — The Grand Forks Police Department will be participating in a distracted driving enforcement campaign throughout September, which is Distracted Driving Awareness Month.
The city of Grand Forks prohibits use of wireless communications devices to compose, read or send any electronic message while operating motor vehicles on streets or highways, according to a GFPD press release.
Violation of this statute carries a $200 fine.
The North Dakota Department of Transportation funds the distracted driving enforcement campaign through grants awarded to law enforcement agencies throughout the state, the release said. The funds allow additional officers to be assigned to patrol specifically for distracted driving violations.
