GRAND FORKS — Grand Forks native and Red River graduate Lawson Lotysz's collegiate playing career has come to an end.
UND football head coach Eric Schmidt announced Monday that the 6-foot-2, 290-pound offensive lineman is retiring from the sport due to injury.
"Really feel badly for the kid," Schmidt said. "Battled his butt off to be able to train and recover, and do everything that he could throughout the entire summer, was at everything. Was really feeling good coming into fall camp, and then just his body let him down, wouldn't cooperate with him. ... Really feel badly for Lawson and his family, and everything that he’s been through."
Lotysz was battling reps to be in the Fighting Hawks' two-deep at center. Though he won't see the field in a playing capacity, Lotysz will stick around
