JASPER COUNTY, S.C. (WSAV) — Jasper County School System's future is looking at a major turnaround. The new superintendent and state education leaders laid their ground Monday, making it known that they have high goals and standards for the district moving forward.

“Every decision, everything that we do, is about investing in our children,” said Dr. Laura Hickson, the newly hired Jasper County Interim Superintendent.

That’s the motto Dr. Hickson, who was hired by the South Carolina State Education Board, opened with Monday at a strategic planning workshop hosted by the school district.

Hickson replaces former Superintendent, Dr. Rechel Henderson, who’s departure caused a shaky year for the district.
