WASHINGTON, D.C. – The House Oversight Committee announced it will investigate D.C.’s Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) over allegations that senior officials falsified crime data.
Committee chair James Comer launched the investigation, alleging that a whistleblower confirms that senior officials intentionally downplayed violent crime data in the nation’s capital.
“A whistleblower with direct knowledge of internal MPD operations and crime data discussions also informed the Committee that crime statistics were allegedly manipulated on a widespread basis and at the direction of senior MPD officials,” according to a press release from the committee.
