Rancho Cucamonga will have a new city manager come December as John Gillison, the city’s almost 15-year manager, plans to retire.

Gillison began working for the city in 2007. In 2011, then-City Manager Jack Lam, who was retiring, recommended Gillison for the role. He had been working under Lam as assistant city manager at that time. The council took the advice of the outgoing leader and promoted Gillison to the role, where he’s been since.

Last week, on Aug. 20, at its meeting, the council approved an employment contract for the next city manager, Elisa Cox, who is currently assistant city manager.

Cox was chosen as an internal hire following a selection process, according to city officials.
