The National Weather Service issued a report at 4:15 p.m. on Monday for strong thunderstorms in effect until 5 p.m. for Joshua Tree NP East.

Wind gusts of up to 55 mph and pea-sized hail (0.25 inches) are anticipated.

“At 4:15 p.m., Doppler radar tracked a strong thunderstorm 12 miles north of Cottonwood Visitor, or 18 miles north of Chiriaco Summit, moving east at 10 mph,” states the NWS Phoenix AZ . “Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Minor damage to outdoor objects is possible.”

The NWS said, “If outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building. This storm may intensify, so be certain to monitor local radio stations and available television stations for additional information and possible warnings from the National Weather Service. Person
