AKWESASNE — Three decades of unforgettable memories were celebrated Saturday afternoon at A’nowara’kó:wa Arena.

The occasion? A family-themed party for the arena itself, in its 30th-anniversary season of being a gathering place for the community.

“It’s been an amazing 30 years,” said master of ceremonies and Akwesasne Lacrosse Hall of Fame member Peter Garrow. “This arena has been a gem for lacrosse and hockey in this area.”

There was a formal portion of the day that had an indoor ceremony. Things were hopping outside, where were carnival games, athletic competitions, and lots of other activities, as the community honoured the past and celebrated the future of what’s affectionately also called the Turtle Dome because of its shape and appearance.
