LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — The ongoing conservation effort to protect razorback suckers in the Colorado River will bring lower water levels in Lake Mohave over the coming months, according to a Monday news release.
Boaters should use caution when navigating downstream of Hoover Dam, where water levels will be lower than normal.
Critical habitat for the razorback sucker, which is listed as endangered, includes the river between Hoover Dam and Davis Dam. In addition, rearing ponds have been established along Lake Mohave. Lower water levels will allow gathering of tens of thousands of newly hatched larvae, which will be transferred to state and federal hatcheries throughout the Southwest.
The Bureau of Reclamation will steadily lower the water levels, bringing the lake down by 5 feet by Oct. 5. Th
