SARASOTA, Fla. (WWSB) - A large oak tree caused considerable damage to two houses when it fell during heavy rain and thunderstorms Aug. 24 in Sarasota’s Gulf Gate neighborhood.

The tree’s canopy shaded several back yards on Sea Gate Drive before storms over the weekend saturated the ground enough for the tree to fall.

Tree experts began cutting the massive oak apart -- and off the roofs of the houses -- Monday afternoon.
