CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) - Could recent police chases be putting your safety at risk?

Three innocent people have died in the last five months, killed by suspects being chased by Cuyahoga County sheriff’s deputies.

19 Investigates looks at whether the department followed their policy and asked if any changes could be coming.

Early Sunday, around 1 a.m., Cuyahoga County sheriff’s deputies tried to stop a vehicle at St. Clair Avenue and East 13th Street for driving recklessly and a suspected OVI, but it sped off.

Deputies got permission to chase it from a supervisory officer per department policy, a spokesperson said.

Then the suspect’s vehicle struck an uninvolved vehicle at Addison Road, killing the 37-year-old female driver.
