A Helena man detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement on July 1 voluntarily left the U.S. and opted out of proceeding through immigration hearings.

Christopher Martinez, who was 31 at the time of his arrest was listed in court documents as Christopher Martinez Marvan, left the U.S. toward the end of July on his own accord, according to Upper Seven Law Attorney Molly Danahy and immigration attorney Andrea Sweeney.

Sweeney represented Martinez during his immigration proceedings and said his family was with him in Mexico, but she did not know what their long-term plans were.

Sweeney added that he would have to stay out of the U.S. for 10 consecutive years before he would ae able to reenter legally.
