MAYFIELD, Ky. (WSIL)-- Community members now have answers after a fun crosstown rivalry football game turned into a crime scene on Friday night.
Mayfield Police Chief Nathan Kent says the shooting between two young people that happened at the War Memorial Stadium had nothing to do with the actual football game or cross-town rivalry.
“The victim is not a student in this community. He's an adult, having already graduated. And the assailant is from another community,” Kent said.
He says they believe the 14-year-old from Fulton, KY, targeted 18-year-old Jordan Riley from Farmington, KY.
Kent says they have the 14-year-old in custody, and Riley is reported to be recovering from his gunshot injuries at a hospital in Nashville.
