MANDAN, N.D. (KFYR) - Nationwide, animal shelters are overcrowded. Central Dakota Humane Society is tackling this issue by adding a new building.

Jerry Kemmet, who is president of the animal shelter, is excited for its 65th anniversary for multiple reasons.

“This building is going to serve the shelter for at least the next 65 years. We’ve put a lot of planning into it, and this building is the future for Central Dakota Humane Society,” said Kemmet.

Central Dakota Humane Society is launching a $4.5 million campaign to fund major enhancements to its facility. Those include 40 larger-sized dog kennels, covered play yards and an on-site veterinarian area for spraying and neutering.
