LANSING, Mich. (WILX) -The start of a new school year is not just an anxious time for parents and students, but teachers as well, especially first year teachers.

For at least one of those new educators, some of those classroom jitters are taken away, by a mid-Michigan woman who has stepped up to the plate to make an impact.

By day, Jill Black works at Michigan State University, but on summer nights, you’ll often find her working as a baseball and softball scorekeeper for both Lansing and Delta Township parks and recreation departments.

The money she earns from those two summer jobs goes to buy school supplies.

“Every year I buy school supplies for a random teacher in Michigan,” Black says.
