BANGOR, Maine — For years, residents in Bangor have shared concerns about access to public bathrooms. In response, the city's parks and recreation department installed four public restrooms at local parks.
However, some people say it isn't maintaining those restrooms.
"It's just not a place where I would want to use the bathroom," Tyler Shanahan, the general manager of Fresh Start Inc. , said.
Shanahan said he's concerned people are using bathrooms for shelter and for other things they weren't meant to be used for.
"I've opened doors to them and found needles and trash and their vandalized, and they're not maintained very well," Shanahan said.
