SPOKANE, Wash. — At North Pittsburgh Street and East Providence Avenue in northeast Spokane, traffic slowed to a hands-and-knees crawl as paint met pavement.
Spokane artist Chris Bovey was hard at work on his asphalt art installation, which joins another 14 around town.
"This is actually my last one; this is my third one," said Bovey.
Bovey is one of the many artists behind Spokane Arts’ street pieces that now adorn avenues in Manito, Logan, Southgate and beyond.
For each design, creators work with neighborhood councils. “They are the boss," said Bovey.
Shelby Allison, the director of the public art program, says each design reflects the vibe of the neighborhood as chosen by its residents.
“They get to choose the artist they work with and they get to help form the design," said Allis
