SPOKANE, Wash. — Spokane City Council is set to vote tonight on a proposal that would prevent federal immigration enforcement officers from entering private community events without a warrant.
The ordinance, called “Safe and Welcome in Spokane,” comes after community organizers canceled last weekend’s 'Tacos y Tequila' festival due to safety concerns.
This is the second time an ordinance like this has been brought before the council. Supporters said it is meant to make immigrants and refugees feel safer attending public gatherings in Spokane.
