Dark, stormy clouds drifted into the Coachella Valley on Sunday, Aug. 24, bringing some more thunder and rain to the Palm Springs area to close out a wetter-than-usual weekend .
Monsoon thunderstorms in the mountains adjacent to the Coachella Valley are the cause of the precipitation, Philip Gonsalves, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in San Diego, said. Half an inch of rain was measured on the slope of Mount San Jacinto on Sunday, and a few minutes of rainfall was seen in Palm Springs.
