BOSTON —
A dog was shot and killed by police officers after it mauled a woman in Boston, the city's police department confirmed.
Officers were called to Howe Terrace in Dorchester just before 7:30 p.m. Monday for a report of an out-of-control dog. Latest Forecast

When officers arrived, they attempted to distract the dog, who ended up going after the officers. Both officers fired shots, killing the dog, Boston police said.
The victim escaped the attack with major damage to her arm, but she is expected to survive, police said. The officers were not bitten by the dog, but were taken to a hospital for evaluation.
Police say they do not know the dog's owner. The dog's breed has not been disclosed.
