CONCOURSE, The Bronx (PIX11) -- With pen strokes loud enough to be heard by the microphones surrounding him, President Donald Trump signed a series of executive orders in the Oval Office on Monday that he said would fight crime, including the first one placed before him on the Resolute Desk, calling for an end to cashless bail.
Trump said that cashless bail, the practice that allows someone accused of certain crimes to be released without having to pay money for bail, results in a situation where "Somebody kills somebody, they go and don’t worry about it."
However, studies of data regarding bail reform and its effect on crime indicate that the numbers don't support the president's assessment.
