MAINE (WABI) - Five poachers received a total of 31 summonses after an investigation by the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife.

In November 2024 the Maine Warden Service received information that someone allegedly shot a deer at night over bait in the Palmyra area.

Game wardens began investigating and learned more than one deer had been poached and the suspect was stealing and selling hunting equipment.

They say additional evidence led to multiple other suspects and more poaching activity.

After a months-long investigation wardens determined the original suspect had poached three deer with two being shot at night and killed over bait.

Officials say one of the deer was littered in a stream in trash bags and plastic totals.

They say the suspect was arrested and received
