KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Several AI-generated ads are entering the radio scene in Tennessee, as well as across the country.
For 14 years, Jack Ryan has been a familiar voice on 96.7, but over the last two years — AI has made its way into the radio industry.
"We're starting to hear commercials that are AI-generated, we are starting to hear voices that are AI-generated," said Ryan.
Merle is the only locally owned radio station in Knoxville broadcasting country music, and the radio personality said it's trying to avoid using AI content.
"People who do commercials need to be aware that we are no longer competing with humans...but with robots. They are not human," Ryan said.
A recent study from CNBC ranks broadcast announcers and radio DJs among the top 10 least AI-safe jobs.
