PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) -- Late summer sunsets are fading fast as Portland saw its final 8 p.m. sunset of the year Monday.
August light is quickly fading as Portland loses a total of 85 minutes of light this month. Sunrises are getting later and sunsets earlier as the autumn equinox arrives on September 22.
The loss of light helps start the cooling trend seen in late August and September. The changing sun angle and reduced sunlight also help the start of the Pacific Northwest's fall foliage.
