POPLAR BLUFF, Mo. (KFVS) - Four officers from the John J. Pershing VA Medical Center in Poplar Bluff, Missouri, were recognized for their heroic actions during a recent car crash.

According to a release from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, Lt. John Pruett and Cpl. Terrell McCollough were on their way to a training session at a local firing range when they came upon a two-vehicle collision involving an adult and six young children, with serious injuries.

“I heard screaming, and it wasn’t a normal scream,” McCollough said. “We got out of the truck and started walking toward the vehicle about 100 yards away, and about halfway there, I saw the adult male turn around while holding a little kid, and he was covered in blood.”
