MISSOULA — Glacier’s girls opened up a 24-stroke lead after the first round of the Missoula Invitational, while the Missoula Sentinel boys were even more impressive at Larchmont Monday.

Behind Kendall Tkachyk, who shot a tournament-best 79 on Monday, the Pack girls had 360 strokes to 384 for Helena. Flathead sits fifth at 406.

Maggie Mitton (85) and Vaida Cole (91) gave Glacier three girls among the top six.

Flathead, meanwhile, also bunched three players together in the top 15: Hayden Ward (99), Haldey McDonald and Rebecca Schmidt.

With three players under par, the Spartans get to 9-under (279) at the midway point of the tournament, which finishes Tuesday at Canyon River. Hudson Goroski shot a 5-under 67 to lead teammate Jack Schaefer by two.
