Two people on an electric bike were seriously injured after being hit by a car in San Marcos on Monday evening, officials said.

The incident happened near South Santa Fe Avenue and North Las Flores Drive just before 6:30 p.m.

One victim was airlifted, and the other was taken by ground ambulance, according to the San Diego County Sheriff's Department. Officials said both sustained major injuries but did not provide their ages or further details on their conditions.

The driver of the car remained at the scene, SDSO Lt. Noah Zarnow said.

It’s unclear what caused the crash or who was at fault.
