SACRAMENTO, Calif. —

Chants of “Sí se puede!” and “¡Viva Dolores Huerta!” filled the Consulate General of Mexico in Sacramento on Monday night as the mission dedicated a gallery in honor of the famed civil rights and labor leader.

“We know the importance of following this woman’s example and raising our voices through a phrase that gave resilience, activism and hope — the famous ‘Sí se puede,’” a speaker said.

Huerta, who co-founded the United Farm Workers and has spent decades advocating for farmworkers’ rights, focused her remarks on migrant laborers and immigrant communities.

“Of all of the atrocities that they have brought down on immigrant communities — the people who pick our food, take care of our children, do the landscaping, build our buildings — this is no way to treat them,”
