An East Bay community advocate has announced plans to run for Oakland mayor in 2026.
Brenda Grisham, who led last year's recall effort against former DA Pamela Price, made her announcement Monday.
She said there's a lot of things in Oakland that need to be changed and is already assembling a team to get the job done.
"I'm going to singly have somebody in charge of every single problem that Oakland has and that will be their duty to handle what you're handling,” Grisham said. “You have to build a foundation to make a difference. If you don't build a foundation, it won't stand."
Oakland's current mayor is former Congresswoman Barbara Lee.
She won the mayor's seat last year in a special election, following the recall of then-mayor Sheng Thao, who is facing corruption charges.
