R ezoning and land use change requests for Willowbrook, a 26-acre single family homes development, won unanimous approval from Gilbert planning commissioners despite surrounding neighbors’ opposition due to traffic concerns.
Now, Gilbert Town Council will have to decide on approving the controversial project during a meeting at 6:30 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 26.
Commissioners had urged residents to make their concerns known at the council while signing off on Lennar Homes’s requests for the development on the southeast corner of Riggs Road and 156th Street. The land is currently owned by the Roosevelt Water Conservation District.
Lennar Homes had requested a land use classification change a plot just east of Val Vista Drive from one home per acre to 2-3.5 units.
