The Ntcheu Magistrate Court, together with the police and the Forestry Department, has burned 18 bags of cannabis weighing 1.5 tonnes.
The exercise was led by Magistrate Alley Abu near the court premises in Ntcheu District.
According to Ntcheu Police spokesperson Jacob Khembo, the cannabis was confiscated from a man who is currently serving a prison sentence.
The convict was found transporting the cannabis in a Honda Freed vehicle on his way to Blantyre.
Upon being intercepted, he abandoned the vehicle and fled but was later arrested. The court sentenced him to imprisonment with hard labour for being found in possession of cannabis without proper documentation.
