The high school cross country season officially opened last Thursday with most teams competing in their first meets over the weekend.
Winfield’s Trace Marshall, Herbert Hoover’s Maysen Fletcher, George Washington’s Ava Mitias and Charleston Catholic’s boys all took home wins recently.
Marshall earned his win at the Huntington Highlanders/Wayne Pioneers Invitational at the YMCA Kennedy Center in Cabell County on Saturday.
The overall finish by Marshall in 16:23.3, coupled with a third-place finish by Ari Clark in 16:55.4, helped the Generals score 74 points to take first among the 16 schools in the high school boys race.
Hurricane placed fourth with 107 points, St. Albans came in 11th with 281 and Poca had 332 points to finish at 13th.
Hurricane’s Paxton Haddox took second at 16:50.0.
