Penn State will bring in millions of dollars when it welcomes thousands of fans at an under-construction Beaver Stadium for Saturday’s season opener. But a decent chunk of that generated revenue will go to the opponent’s bank account.
Penn State will pay $1.6. million to Nevada for Saturday’s home game, PennLive learned through a Freedom of Information Act request to the visiting university.
The game contract between Penn State and Nevada, which was obtained by PennLive, was signed back on Oct. 11, 2022.
Nevada’s $1.6 million payday is in line with the normal fee associated with a non-conference “buy game,” in which a lower-level FBS team plays at a P4 venue. Penn State paid out $1.5 million to Bowling Green and $1.6 million to Kent State for last year’s home games.
