PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Starting September 1, opioid overdose prevention must be available in dorms at all Rhode Island colleges and universities.

State lawmakers passed a law earlier this year requiring naloxone, commonly known as Narcan, in all higher education institutions.

Colleges and universities are also required to train resident assistants and other housing staff to administer Narcan.

The law was signed into effect by Governor Dan McKee two months ago, on June 26.
