A woman is recovering from serious injuries after being attacked by a pit bull Monday night in Dorchester, where police fatally shot the dog during the incident, authorities said.
The woman was attacked on Howe Terrace, a dead-end road off Hancock Street. Responding officers tried to distract the dog, but it ended up turning toward them, leading them to shoot the pit bull, according to BPD.

The dog was fatally shot.
The woman, while seriously hurt, is expected to survive.
