The Outer Banks will keep the red flags flying on Tuesday. The risk stays moderate from Cape Lookout to Hatteras Point with a low risk from Cape Lookout westward.

If you’re heading to the beach, keep these tips in mind:

Swim only near staffed lifeguard stations—they’re trained to spot trouble before it starts.

Look for the beach warning flags. A red flag means stay out of the water.

Never swim alone. Always go in with a buddy and let someone on shore know your location.

If caught in a rip current, don’t panic. Swim parallel to the shore until you’re out of the current, then make your way back in.
